The 7-step claim process in Pakistan

1

Stay safe and assess the situation

Before anything else — make sure everyone is safe. Move the vehicle to a safe spot if possible. Call emergency services if anyone is injured. Only when it is safe should you start documenting the incident.

2

Document everything at the scene

Take clear photos of all damage — your car, the other vehicle(s), the road and surroundings. Note the time, location and circumstances. If there are witnesses, ask for their contact details. This documentation is critical for your claim.

3

Inform your insurer within 24–48 hours

Contact your insurance company or broker as soon as possible — ideally within 24–48 hours. With SGI, a quick WhatsApp message is enough to start the process. Delayed reporting can complicate your claim.

4

File an FIR if required

For theft, total loss or major accidents, an FIR (First Information Report) from the nearest police station is typically required. For minor accidents without third-party involvement, it is usually not needed. Your insurer will advise.

5

Submit your documents

Send the required documents to your insurer: CNIC, policy number, photos of damage, driving licence, vehicle registration book, FIR (if required). With SGI, you can send all documents via WhatsApp.

6

Surveyor assessment

Your insurer will arrange for a surveyor to inspect and assess the damage. The survey typically happens within 2–3 working days of your claim submission. Cooperate fully and make the vehicle accessible.

7

Approval and settlement

Once the surveyor's report is submitted, your insurer approves the claim and authorises repairs at an approved workshop, or arranges a payout for total loss or theft. Keep your insurer updated on any developments.
